Malignant bone tumors around the knee: A single-center experience

Aim: This study aimed to determine the frequency of malignant bone tumors (primary and metastatic) seen around knee in our region, patients’ type demographic characteristics, treatments’ outcomes. Material Method: A retrospective analysis patients who were diagnosed treated with histopathologically region hospital between 2004-2021 was performed from database. Patients’ complaints, information, diagnostic imaging findings examined. In addition, tumor types, localization, treatments applied analyzed. Results: Malignant detected 88 (35.7%) 246 included study. The 48 women 40 men, a mean age 39.72±21.8 (6-76 years). total divided into pediatric group (<18 years; n=39) adult (≥18 n=49). most common osteosarcoma 54 (61.3%) metastatic 22 (25%) patients. localization distal femur rate 75%. Metastasis 12 (18.2%) 66 followed up for primary tumors. Limb sparing surgery 70 (79.5%), various levels amputation 14 (15.9%). Palliative radiotherapy two lesions, while neoadjuvant chemotherapy period died. 5-year overall survival 63.7%. Pediatric groups did not differ significantly terms (p=0.74), gender (p=0.585), metastasis development (p=0.53). Conclusion: is that requires attention regarding it. As are rarely knee, misdiagnosis may be made, appropriate treatment delayed. Although first diagnosis come mind presenting pain trauma growing pains, it must forgotten could cause.
